We love this place. Best affordable eats in town. The friendliest staff. Large menu. Eat here. You will be amazed.

Pretty good. We all had the rib eye. Baked potato was super, sweet potato fries were, well, sweet potato fries. Which is pretty good, isn't it? Atmosphere is kind of blah, a little bit dingy and poorly lit. But the food and service were better than fine and I thought the price was fair. Not inexpensive but not Prime Steak House expensive (which it ain't) either. In the past I have had the chicken fried steak and it too was better than fine. Altus is not a culinary delight but this is a highlight. We'll be back.

The food is good and cheap and very affordable and the modelo beer is fresh and it is refreshing and the burger are really good too

This place has local ambiance and vibes from the time you see it from the street. While on a business trip we were looking for a place to have an ice cold beer and good food. When you walk in the first thing you notice is the patrons, they are all locals and a bunch of people on a business dinner. That, to me, was exactly what was needed. The entrance is on the side instead of the side facing the street. Once you walk in you are greeted by the friendly staff and taken to your table. The place is nothing fancy but clean and the decor is a throwback and the restaurant is filled with families enjoying a great meal. The beer selection was pretty good and the size of frozen mug starts at XL, or so it looked. The steaks are all very good quality, rivaling many of the big city steakhouses but at a much lower price point. This is a place that I would come to every time I am in town. If you like a low key, friendly place with great steaks at a price that is quite affordable, Fred's is the place

Why does this place only have 3 stars? This was great food! Three of us had chicken fried steak which was a perfect size...not those mondo pieces where you can't find the steak for the breading. It was hand breaded and tender. I had fried okra with mine...crispy and delicious. Another one of us had salmon and it was fantastic...cooked on a cedar plank and the seasoning on top was amazing. They were out of coleslaw so she ordered grilled veggies which were well worth it. Then we all ordered our own slice of coconut cream pie and that did not disappoint. All this for under $52! We enjoyed our food here last night so much that we came back today for lunch. The food and service were excellent AGAIN. We started with fried pickles which were good and spicy. I had the fried catfish with okra. Asked for extra lemons and the waitress gave me a full mug full. I used them all. The fish was very crispy, just the way I like it. Dad had the fried shrimp and he got 15 medium size shrimp. He also ordered a draft Bud Light which was super cold. The cocktail sauce was too sweet...needed more horseradish. The nachos were also good. Definitely recommend.

Fred's is a phenomenal bargain. The house favorites are all under $10 and come with an entree, side and roll. The chicken fried steak is the most bang for your buck on the menu, might as well order two of those. I ordered Sirloin steak meal and pork chop meal for $18, incredible. Quality is good to very good, but not great or outstanding. I ordered medium rare steak, came out rare and was simply seared on each side (cold in the middle) - I sent it back and it was a tasty medium. Fred's is affordable and still pretty tasty, almost same price as the grocery store. Don't expect gourmet, and you'll leave full and more than satisfied
